William Randolph Hearst [William Randolph Hearst]
(1863–1951) a very rich American who owned newspapers, magazines, radio stations and two film companies. He used ↑yellow journalism in his newspapers to increase their sales. His New York Journal competed fiercely in the 1890s with the New York World, owned by Joseph Pulitzer, and both encouraged the ↑Spanish-American War in order to help sales. Hearst built the castle of ↑San Simeon as his home in ↑California. Orson Welles based his film ↑Citizen Kane on Hearst’s life.
